KANSAS STUDENTS STAGE SCHOOL LUNCH BOYCOTT TO PROTEST FEDERAL LUNCHROOM NUTRITION LAW

After students have been saying “we are hungry” due to new nutrition guidelines for school lunches that limit calories and increase fruits and vegetables, a group in Abilene, Kan. participated in a three-day protest against it.
The Salina Journal reports students at Abilene Senior High School against the calorie limitations in the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which was signed into law by the president, refused to buy school lunches, thinking it would have financial impacts that would speak louder than words.
“The biggest way to get into someone’s head is to mess with their pockets,” freshman Gehrig Geissinger said, according to the Journal.

Joe, if you lose the election will you move back to Delmar or will you continue to live downtown?

JoeAlbero said...

anonymous 1:09, I'm going to be completely honest with my answer to your question.

If I/you lose this election I will not continue to live in Downtown Salisbury.

My Wife and Grandson are my life. Do you have ANY idea what we have been through over the past 7 years. Have you read some of the extremely nasty things people like Jonathan Taylor and others had dedicated every waking breath attacking my Wife and our children.

I have been arrested, sued multiple times. Our lives have been threatened numerous times. We have found dead and decapitated animals at the end of our driveway in Delmar as we were bringing our Grandson to the Bus. We have found more than 500 rounds of ammunition on our property as our dogs scared someone off.

No one you have ever known has had to put up with more crap in their entire lifetime.

I am running for Mayor because I represent each and every one of you who have been trampled on. I'm running for Mayor because it makes me sick to my stomach watching corruption everywhere we look. Special interests getting everything they want while we the people end up paying for those payoffs.

I am a retired successful businessman who can deliver everything it takes to make Salisbury a much better place to live and work.

That being said, I have said this from the very beginning, "This isn't Joe Albero's election to lose. It's the citizens' election to lose". If I'm not elected I can pretty much say we will strongly consider selling off each and every property we own on the Eastern Shore and more than likely pack our bags and move to the Carolina's.

IF the citizens opt to keep things exactly as they have been for the past 16 years under Tilghman and Ireton, I'm done with Salisbury Maryland and yes that includes Salisbury News.

Eight years has been long enough. I have fought the good fight honorably. I spend 18 hours a day on most days giving back to this community. If I haven't proven I am worthy of the next level by becoming your next Mayor, it's time for me to step down, walk away and let Salisbury slip right back to the 1950's again.

I'm sorry for the long reply but I want to be open and honest with all of you. I divided myself from my Family for the very last time in my life. I will fulfill my commitment as a full time Mayor, not a part time Mayor. I will accept the $25,000.00 a year for 2 years and I will turn Salisbury around, should I get elected.

However, just remember all the sacrifices we've done for one year BEFORE the election for the good of the people. If I'm not elected, trust me, we will have heard your voices through your votes and we will move on.

Democrats Love Google, Republicans Prefer Chick-fil-A

Americans don’t see eye-to-eye on politics, so why should it be any different when it comes to the brands we admire?

Democrats seem to love Google [GOOG 677.3022    -3.0478  (-0.45%)   ], for example, while the Internet search company fails to even break the top 10 list of Republicans' favorite brands, according to an annual ranking released Wednesday by YouGov Brand Index, a consumer research firm.

Republicans and independents both have a high opinion of the History Channel and Discovery Channel [DISCA  59.05    -0.45  (-0.76%)   ] — brands that are just not top of mind for Democrats.

The Richest Members of Congress

For the first time, the richest member of Congress, as determined annually by Roll Call, had a net worth of more than $300 million. This year’s list also included many names who had made the list before.

The rankings are based on minimum net worth based on assets and liabilities that are cited in broad ranges, so the actual net worth of each representative is not precise.

Roll Call determines net worth by consulting the annual financial disclosure reports from all House and Senate lawmakers, and for each one, subtracts the total minimum value of all liabilities from the total minimum value of their assets.

OBAMA: 'ABSOLUTELY' NO REGRETS FOR IGNORING ECONOMY FOR FIRST TWO YEARS

The Obama campaign has finally released the transcript of his endorsement interview with the Des Moines Register--and it is clear why they were reluctant to do so: the President says he has "absolutely" no regrets about ignoring the economy during the first two years of his term, when Democrats controlled Congress.

Here is the key part of the exchange:
Q: Yes, that begs a question from us, Mr. President. Some say you had a super majority in your first two years and had this incredible opportunity, but because of what you were talking about, as you were running, you had to go to get Obamacare done. Do you have any regrets taking on some of the economic issues, some of the issues that we're talking about for your second term, that when you had the chance, so to speak, during your first -- do you have any regrets that you didn’t do that at that time?
THE PRESIDENT: Absolutely not, Laura. Remember the context. First of all, Mitch McConnell has imposed an ironclad filibuster from the first day I was in office. And that's not speculation. I mean, this is -- it’s amply recorded. He gave a speech saying, my task is to defeat the President.

SCHOOLS CANCELLING HALLOWEEN PARTIES OVER 'CULTURAL DIFFERENCES'

Schools across the country have announced they are cancelling Halloween activities this year. These decisions are being made by administrators, often with little or no input from parents. Administrators claim they want to focus on academics but also note "religious and cultural" issues are at play in the decision to downplay Halloween.

A school superintendent in Skokie, Illinois just north of Chicago recently announced that District 69 schools will not be celebrating Halloween this year. A letter sent to parents last month mentioned the need to focus on academics but also explained the decision as the result of economic, religious, and cultural concerns. "Many students cannot afford costumes and there is an economic disparity... We also have students that are unable to participate for religious or cultural reasons."

Could Romney Overturn Roe v. Wade?

If former Gov. Mitt Romney wins this year's presidential election, there is a realistic chance that Roe v. Wade — the Supreme Court decision that protected a woman's right to have an abortion — could be overturned under his administration, experts say.
With the justices sitting on the court now, it's very unlikely an abortion case would garner the five votes needed to reverse the ruling, said Harvard Law School assistant professor I. Glenn Cohen, co-director of the school's Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics. But Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a left-leaning judge who is 79, could retire during the next administration, allowing the president to nominate a more conservative-minded judge. Another justice could retire as well.
If that happens, it's "possible to likely" that the court would have enough votes to overturn the 1973 ruling, Cohen said.

ED KLEIN: BILL CLINTON ‘URGING’ HILLARY TO RELEASE BENGHAZI DOCUMENTS THAT WOULD ‘EXONERATE’ HER, DESTROY OBAMA’S RE-ELECTION HOPES

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ordered additional security for the U.S. mission in Benghaziahead of the terrorist attack but the orders were never carried out, according to “legal counsel” to Clinton who spoke to best-selling author Ed Klein. Those same sources also say former President Bill Clinton has been “urging” his wife to release official State Department documents that prove she called for additional security at the compound in Libya, which would almost certainly result in President Obama losing the election.
Appearing on TheBlazeTV’s “Wilkow!” on Wednesday night, Klein told host Andrew Wilkow that Bill and Hillary Clinton have been having “big fights” for “two or three weeks” about the issue, according to his two sources on Clinton’s legal counsel. While Bill Clinton wishes his wife would “exonerate” herself by releasing the documents that show she wasn’t at fault for the tragic security failure in Libya, the secretary of state refuses to do so because she doesn’t want to be viewed as a traitor to the Democratic party.

DuPont To Cut 1,500 Jobs After 3Q Profit Slide

DOVER, Del. (AP) — The DuPont Co. said Tuesday that it will cut about 1,500 jobs and take other steps to increase its competitiveness, after weak demand for a key industrial pigment and uncertainty in the solar panel market led to a sharp drop in third-quarter earnings.
The chemical company, based in Wilmington, reported net income of $10 million, or a penny per share, compared with $452 million, or 48 cents per share, for the same period last year. Excluding one-time items, DuPont earned 44 cents per share, compared with 69 cents per share for last year's third quarter. Revenue from continuing operations totaled about $7.4 billion, down 9 percent from $8.1 billion.

The results fell short of analysts' estimate of 46 cents per share, according to FactSet. DuPont shares fell 9 percent in Tuesday trading, contributing to a broad market decline.

KIDS REACT TO ELECTION 2012

Generational Wealth And Upward Mobility

Advanced democracies have lost upward mobility.

Both capitalism and democracy promise the opportunity for upward mobility. Capitalism offers upward mobility to anyone with a profitable idea or productive skillset and work ethic. Democracy implicitly promises a "level playing field" of meritocracy, where talent, drive and hard work open opportunities for advancement.

Crony capitalism offers wealth to the class that already possesses it. Feudalism bestows "rights" to wealth to a favored few. In a way, upward mobility is a real-world test of a nation's economic and social order: if upward mobility exits in name only, then that nation is neither capitalist nor democratic. Stripped of propaganda and misleading labels, it is a feudal society or a crony-capitalist economy masquerading as a capitalist democracy.

Japan is an interesting case study. Some readers of last week's series on Japan noted that Japan was still very wealthy and life was good there. Indeed, some commentators have made the case that Japan has purposefully indebted itself to mask the wealth generated by its export machine: The Myth That Japan is Broke [10]. (via Mike H.)

Corkins is due to appear in federal court to face the new charges on Friday.

WARN THE PUBLIC, THE HIGHWAY IS NO PLACE TO PLAY TRICK OR TREAT WITH ALCOHOL

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, “Halloween is the second most dangerous day for pedestrians” and the Maryland State Police is warning citizens Maryland roads are no place to play trick or treat while impaired.  Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel Marcus L. Brown has ordered each of the 22 barracks to deploy extra patrols from October 26, 2012 through October 31, 2012. “These patrols will be specifically looking for and removing dangerous and impaired drivers from the roadways to ensure everyone has a safe Halloween celebration,” Colonel Brown said. “Our goal is to keep children safe while they are trick or treating as well as to keep the motoring public safe while they are traveling to and from their celebrations.”  Nighttime is always a dangerous time on the road, but Halloween can be particularly scary when an impaired driver gets behind the wheel. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “41 percent of all highway fatalities throughout the nation, during the Halloween period in 2010, involved a driver or a motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher.”  To stay safe this Halloween season, the Maryland State Police recommend that drivers plan a safe way home before the festivities begin. Designate a sober driver and give them the keys. If you find yourself impaired, call a friend or family member, use public transportation, or call a taxi. If you see a driver you think is impaired, keep a safe distance and contact law enforcement.  The additional State Police patrols are in support of the Maryland Highway Safety Office's "Checkpoint Strikeforce Halloween Wave" and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "Halloween Impaired Driving Prevention Initiative". The extra troopers will be saturating roads with high documented DUI crashes. They will also be focusing on impaired and distracted drivers. The overtime funding for additional patrols has been provided by grants from the Maryland Highway Safety Office.  CONTACT: Sgt. Marc Black, Sr. Office of Media Comm. - 410-653-4236

Kissing Students Steal The Show At President’s Photo Op

A little romance in the top row definitely stole the show of this presidential photo op.
President Barack Obama surprised the students at Daughter of Zion Jr. Academy in Delray Beach, Fla., with an unscheduled stop after a campaign event at Delray Beach Tennis Center on Tuesday.
The kids were standing outside their school to wave to the motorcade but got an even more personal response: The commander in chief stopped and took a photo with them.

Obama Moves To Make The 'War On Terror' Permanent

Complete with a newly coined, creepy Orwellian euphemism – 'disposition matrix' – the administration institutionalizes the most extremist powers a government can claim

A primary reason for opposing the acquisition of abusive powers and civil liberties erosions is that they virtually always become permanent, vested not only in current leaders one may love and trust but also future officials who seem more menacing and less benign.
The Washington Post has a crucial and disturbing story this morning by Greg Miller about the concerted efforts by the Obama administration to fully institutionalize – to make officially permanent – the most extremist powers it has exercised in the name of the war on terror.
Based on interviews with "current and former officials from the White House and the Pentagon, as well as intelligence and counterterrorism agencies", Miller reports that as "the United States' conventional wars are winding down", the Obama administration "expects to continue adding names to kill or capture lists for years" (the "capture" part of that list is little more than symbolic, as the US focus is overwhelmingly on the "kill" part). Specifically, "among senior Obama administration officials, there is broad consensus that such operations are likely to be extended at least another decade." As Miller puts it: "That timeline suggests that the United States has reached only the midpoint of what was once known as the global war on terrorism."

U.N. Human Rights Council Calls for Boycott of U.S. Companies

The Washington Free Beaconhas obtained a report soon to be released by the United Nations that calls for an international campaign of legal attacks and economic warfare on a group of American companies that do business in Israel, including Hewlett-Packard, Caterpillar Inc., and Motorola Solutions Inc.

The Human Rights Council (HRC), a body dominated by Islamic countries and known for its hostility to, and heavy focus on, the Jewish State, issued the report. The George W. Bush administration refused to participate in the HRC, but President Barack Obama joined it soon after taking office.Members of the HRC include infamous human rights abusers such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Libya, China, and Cuba.

The Obama-approved body maintains a “Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories [sic].” The current rapporteur is American college professor Richard Falk, a 9/11 “truther” who once posted an anti-Semitic cartoon on his personal blog.

NOAA to East: Beware Of Coming 'Frankenstorm'

An unusual nasty mix of a hurricane and a winter storm that forecasters are now calling "Frankenstorm" is likely to blast most of the East Coast next week, focusing the worst of its weather mayhem around New York City and New Jersey.
Government forecasters on Thursday upped the odds of a major weather mess, now saying there's a 90 percent chance that the East will get steady gale-force winds, heavy rain, flooding and maybe snow starting Sunday and stretching past Halloween on Wednesday.
Meteorologists say it is likely to cause $1 billion in damages.
The storm is a combination of Hurricane Sandy, now in the Caribbean, an early winter storm in the West, and a blast of arctic air from the North. They're predicted to collide and park over the country's most populous coastal corridor and reach as far inland as Ohio.

Ford closes Belgian plant in 2014; 9,500 jobs hit

BRUSSELS — Ford Motor Co. announced Wednesday it planned to close a car plant in eastern Belgium — one of its main European factories — by the end of 2014, a move that would result in 4,500 direct job losses and 5,000 more among subcontractors.
Exactly half a century after construction on the Genk plant started, Ford told a management council there that production was winding down since slumping European sales has forced a restructuring of its plants.
“This is taking us by surprise and is an extremely bitter pill,” Christian Democrat union representative Johan Lamers told The Associated Press.

Secret Service Thoughts About Past Presidents And First Ladies

From the Secret Service/Very interesting snippets from Ronald Kessler’s book about our presidentsHere are snippets from a book of “Impressions & Observations” of Secret Service personnel assigned to guard U.S. Presidents/First Ladies, and Vice Presidents.

JOHN & JACQUELINE KENNEDY*A philanderer of the highest order. *
*She ordered the kitchen help to save all the left-over wine during a State dinner, mixed it with fresh wine and served again during the next White House occasion.*

*LYNDON & LADYBIRD JOHNSON*Another philanderer of the highest order. In addition, LBJ was as crude as the day is long. Both JFK and LBJkept a lot of women in the White House for extramarital affairs, and both had set up “early warning systems” to alert them if/when their wives were nearby. Both Kennedy & Johnson were promiscuous and oversexed men. *
*She was either naive or just pretended to “not know” about her husband’s many liaisons. *

*RICHARD & PAT NIXON*A “moral” man but very odd, weird, paranoid, etc. He had horrible relationship with his family, and in a way, was almost a recluse.*
*She was quiet most of the time.*

*SPIRO AGNEW* Nice, decent man, everyone in the Secret Service was surprised by his downfall. *
*GERALD & BETTY FORD*A true gentlemen who treated the Secret Service with respect and dignity. He had a great sense of humor. *
*She drank a lot!*

*JIMMY & ROSALYN CARTER*A complete phony who would portray one picture of himself to public and very different in private, e..g., would be shown carrying his own luggage, but the suitcases were always empty; he kept the empty ones just for photo ops. Wanted the people to see him as pious and a non-drinker, but he and his family drank alcohol a lot! He had disdain for the Secret Service, and was very irresponsible with the “football” with nuclear codes. He didn’t think it was a big deal and would keep military aides at a great distance. Often did not acknowledge the presence of Secret Service personnel assigned to serve him.*
*She mostly did her own thing.*

*RONALD & NANCY REAGAN*The real deal moral, honest, respectful, and dignified. They treated Secret Service and everyone else with respect and honor. Thanked everyone all the time. He took the time to know everyone on a personal level. * One “favorite” story that has circulated among the Secret Service personnel was an incident early in his Presidency, when he came out of his room with a pistol tucked on his hip. The agent in charge asked: “Why the pistol, Mr. President” He replied, “In case you boys can’t get the job done, I can help.” It was common for him to carry a pistol. When he met with Gorbachev, he had a pistol in his briefcase. Upon learning that Gary Hart was caught with Donna Rice, Reagan said, “Boys will be boys, but boys will not be Presidents.” [He obviously either did not know or forgot JFK's and LBJ's sexcapades!]*
*She was very nice but very protective of the President; and the Secret Service was often caught in the middle. She tried hard to control what the President ate, and he would say to the agent, “Come on, you gotta help me out.” The Reagans drank wine during State dinners and special occasions only; otherwise, they shunned alcohol; the Secret Service could count on one hand the times they were served wine during their “family dinner”. For all the fake bluster of the Carters, the Reagans were the ones who lived life as genuinely moral people.*

*GEORGE H. & BARBARA BUSH*Extremely kind and considerate Always respectful. Took great care in making sure the agents’ comforts were taken care of. They even brought them meals, etc. One time Barbara Bush brought warm clothes to agents standing outside at Kennebunkport; one agent was given a warm hat, and when he tried to nicely say “no thanks” even though he was obviously freezing, President Bush said “Son, don’t argue with the First Lady, put the hat on.” He was the most prompt of the Presidents. He ran the White House like a well-oiled machine.*
*She ruled the house and spoke her mind.*

*BILL & HILLARY CLINTON*Presidency was one giant party. Not trustworthy he was nice mainly because he wanted everyone to like him, but to him life is just one big game and party. Everyone knows of his sexuality.*
*She is another phony. Her personality would change the instant cameras were near. She hated with open disdain the military and Secret Service. She was another one who felt people were there to serve her. She was always trying to keep tabs on Bill Clinton.*

*ALBERT GORE* An egotistical ass, who was once overheard by his Secret Service detail lecturing his only son that he needed to do better in school or he “would end up like these guys” pointing to the agents.*
*GEORGE W. & LAURA BUSH*The Secret Service loved him and Laura Bush. He was also the most physically “in shape” who had a very strict workout regimen. The Bushes made sure their entire administrative and household staff understood they were to respect and be considerate of the Secret Service.
*She was one of the nicest First Ladies, if not the nicest; she never had any harsh word to say about anyone.*
*KARL ROVE was in fact, though, the guy who was the most caring of the Secret Service in the administration.*

*BARACK & MICHELLE OBAMA*” Clinton all over again” – hates the military and looks down on the Secret Service. He is egotistical and cunning; looks you in the eye and appears to agree with you, but turns around and does the opposite untrustworthy. He has temper tantrums.*
*She is a complete bitch, who basically hates anybody who is not black; hates the military; and looks at the Secret Service as servants.*
A taxpayer voting for Obama is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders.
