Baby Left In Sweltering Car Rescued

It’s an unfortunate story that we hear every summer: young children getting left in cars in the sweltering heat.

Fortunately for a Gaithersburg child, a Good Samaritan was nearby and rescued her from a hot car.

On Friday, Tom Hruska was looking for a parking spot in a garage at the Rio Entertainment Complex, but had to go all the way to the sun-soaked roof to find an opening.

Israeli Navy Boards, Takes Control Of 'Rachel Corrie' Off Gaza Coast

Prime Minister compares quiet boarding of boat with "peace activists" to "violent extremists" of Mavi Marmara.

The boarding of the Rachel Corrie containing activists and aid for Gaza was described by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Saturday as a quiet operation. Netanyahu was quick to distinguish between the boat of Irish and Malaysian activists and the Turkish-sponsored Mavi Marmara which was boarded May 31 in an incident that left nine dead and scores wounded.

"The different outcome we saw today underscores the difference between peace activists who we disagree with but respect their right to express their different opinion and flotilla participants [on the Mavi Marmara] who were violent extremist supporters of terrorists," said Netanyahu.

IDF navy forces boarded and took control of the MV Rachel Corrie Saturday afternoon. The troops did not meet any resistance from activists attempting to break the Gaza blockade, and the operation was completed without violent incidents.

The military said its forces boarded the 1,200-ton cargo ship from the sea, not helicopters. Army spokeswoman Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich said Saturday's takeover took only a few minutes and that the vessel was being taken to Ashdod port.

Prior to the takeover, three navy ships tailed the aid boat for several hours throughout the morning, a few dozen kilometers from the blockaded Strip. The army said it had contacted the boat four times and urged its passengers to divert to Ashdod, but the activists had repeatedly refused.

The IDF had said that it would have no choice but to board the ship if it did not agree to go to Ashdod.

Big Mike Breaks It Down

He's got a blackboard and he's not afraid to use it!

What's the connection between oil company executives, wet t-shirt contests, the Department of Interior and the disaster in the gulf? Scary thing is, there is one.

Watch Big Mike break it down and connect the dots. Hey, if you're going to stand in front of a blackboard, you might as well use it to actually explain something!

There's been a lot of finger pointing and a lot of confusion about how we came to face the greatest oil spill in US history. This video lays it out. This problem started in Washington and can end in Washington, but only if President Obama and other elected leaders get real about closing the revolving door between corporate lobbyists and our government.

Lobbyists make up 2% of Washington DC, yet they've been able to run roughshod over our democracy, rigging the rules and fixing the system so that 98% of the country gets little or no say.

If you think it's time to take our democracy back, we think this is a video you and your friends will want to see.

Agents Feared Mexican Drug Cartel Attack On Border Dam

An alleged plot by a Mexican drug cartel to blow up a dam along the Texas border — and unleash billions of gallons of water into a region with millions of civilians — sent American police, federal agents and disaster officials secretly scrambling last month to thwart such an attack, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Whether or not the cartel, which is known to have stolen bulk quantities of gunpowder and dynamite, could have taken down the 5-mile-long Falcon Dam may never be known since the attack never came to pass.

It may have been derailed by a stepped-up presence by the Mexican military, which was acting in part on intelligence from the U.S. government, sources said.

The warning, which swung officials into action, was based on what the federal government contends were “serious and reliable sources” and prompted the Department of Homeland Security to sound the alarm to first responders along the South Texas-Mexico border.

Mexico's Zeta cartel was planning to destroy the dam not to terrorize civilians, but to get back at its rival and former ally, the Gulf cartel, which controls smuggling routes from the reservoir to the Gulf of Mexico, said Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez, head of the Southwest Border Sheriff's Coalition, as did others familiar with the alleged plot.

But in the process, massive amounts of agricultural land would stand to be flooded as well as significant parts of a region where about 4 million people live along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

HISTORICAL COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER

The Fire of 1860

(The picture above is Bridge St., around 1850 – earliest known picture of Salisbury)

Although Salisbury is 278 years old, only the last 150 years can be historically chronicled. A tragic fire in 1860 destroyed all the town records and most of the buildings that would have made Salisbury a very historic town.

Before 1860, Salisbury was not much more than a village, similar to the ones that dotted the English countryside in which most of the ancestors of Salisbury had resided.

The population was around 500 people. The roads were dirt, and livestock was more likely than not to wander and graze on the main street of town. The main street was called Bridge Street. It is now called Main Street. It was a small, three block street with few stores on it that ended on the west end at the river. A general merchandise store of William Birckhead, the jewelry store of A. W. W. Woodcock, the bakery of John Kayler, the hat shop of Henry Brewington, the apothecary shop of Dr. Levin D. Collier, a small post office and a bank were some of the establishments of Bridge Street. There was also the occasional tavern that invited a visit from the passer-by. Overlooking all this was the high tower of St. Peter’s Protestant Episcopal Church, referred to as Goddard’s Chapel. Being the highest structure in town, it was used as a landmark for travelers to tell them from a distance where they were.

This tranquility was broken in August, 1860, by a devastating fire that broke out in the Daniel Davis building on the northwest corner of Bridge and St. Peter’s streets.

Shortly before, the town had purchased a new piece of fire fighting apparatus. It consisted of a large wooden reservoir, mounted to a chassis with large iron wheels. Two hand pumps forced water into the tank from one of the town pumps, ordinarily used to quench the thirst of the townsmen and their horses.

Down St. Peter’s Street, a dozen men dragged this apparatus, while St. Peter’s church bell continued to ring wildly. The Davis building was being rapidly consumed. From there the flames leaped to other frame structures on Bridge Street. The whole street became a raging inferno. Firemen fought valiantly. Bucket brigades augmented the single piece of fire-fighting equipment. All to no avail.

When burning embers remained a mute testimony to the town that was, it was discovered that the fire “engine”, too, had met destruction. The people of Salisbury had fought bravely to save their town, but all was lost – the history, the buildings, everything.

There were two other events that occurred at this time. The first was the railroad. It had been extended down as far as Delmar in 1860 and was to have been built all the way to Somer’s Cove, which is now Crisfield. The second event precluded the railroad from coming any further south. It was the Civil War. The Civil War put a four-year hiatus on any measurable growth to what was a town left in ruins after that devastating fire.

Jeremy Gordy Suspended From The SFD

Acting Lieutenant Jeremy Gordy, (Son of the Deputy Fire Chief Bill Gordy) has allegedly been suspended for disobeying a direct order from a superior.

Salisbury News learned that Jeremy wanted to take out the brand new Hazmat Truck and was flat out told, NO.

The next thing the SFD knew, the truck was gone along with a Joel Dixon who had only received his Class A License a month ago.

We have been told by numerous sources that Jeremy was immediately suspended.

UPDATE: I have come to learn the driver only had his license for one week, not one month. We were also informed Mr. Gordy has a serious track record of doing this same very thing over and over again. There were many issues of him taking out the brand new Tower Truck regularly, (without permission) and it would come back with things completely tore up.

Maryland and Department Law states anyone driving a Class A Vehicle must have their license for at least 3 years or have someone in the vehicle that has had their license for 3 years. This was not the case, hence Mr. Gordy getting suspended. More to come, I'm sure.

Shhhhhhh, Don't Tell The Mayor!

Mayor Ireton certainly has his plate full with all kinds of "old baggage" the former Mayor left behind.

You know what though Folks, you have to wonder just how many people were aware of the scams that have been going on in Salisbury for so many years. Yesterday it was Alarm Systems, today its Towing Companies.

So let's look at the local Towing Industry. The City of Salisbury has an agreement with each and every Towing Company in Salisbury to which each owner can only own ONE company and each Owner signs a formal agreement to such. In this contract they are required to have a secured storage lot, yet this is clearly not policed by the City because some do not. In fact, some actually share storage lots with other Towing Companies. Some don't have a secured lot at all.

More importantly, the reason the City has each Owner sign an agreement to which they only own ONE company at a time is based on a ROTATION system. If the Salisbury Police need a vehicle towed, they use a rotation list. The same could be said for the City of Salisbury's parking/meter group. This rotation system is in place to make sure everyone is treated equally and fairly. But are they? If you own lets say 4 companies, you're getting 4 times the business the next guy who's doing things by the book is. Now multiply that throughout an entire year!

What does it mean these days when an owner of a company knowingly signs an agreement and then flat out lies in order to gain more business?

Certainly this is a small scale thing but to those smaller Towing Companies struggling to stay alive in this economy, it means everything to them.

It's been reported there are companies that own as many as 4 different companies at one time. A DOT# is given to the individual/owner, not the corporation. One can easily look at the DOT #'s on each company vehicle and see they are owned by one individual.

OK, now that you're aware that this unfair practice is going on, what would you say if I told you our local government is well aware of it and has done absolutely nothing to resolve it. Let me add, could this be considered perjury?

We're told there's a special way to get around this formal agreement but once again, who's policing the Police? Who's policing the City? Could a Mayor suggest only certain companies be considered first? How about the Police Department leadership? Is there room for payoffs?

This is what the Good Old Boys are all about, beating the system. Since Mayor Ireton is well aware of what's going on, yet nothing has been done about it, I'm asking that the States Attorneys Office start looking into this matter.

If YOU are aware of any other similar possible scams like this, let us know and we'll look into it.

NO ENEMIES

All women should live so long as to be this kind of old lady!Toward the end of Sunday service, the Minister asked, ' How many of you have forgiven your enemies? '80% held up their hands.

The Minister then repeated his question. All responded this time, except one small elderly lady.

'Mrs. Neely?'; ' Are you not willing to forgive your enemies? 'I don't have any. 'She replied, smiling sweetly.

'Mrs. Neely, that is very unusual. How old are you? ''Ninety-eight, 'she replied. The congregation stood up and clapped their hands.

'Oh, Mrs. Neely, would you please come down in front & tell us all how a person can live ninety-eight years & not have an enemy in the world?

'The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, faced the congregation, and said, ' I outlived the bitches.'

Favorite Animal

Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, everyone else in the class laughed.

My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef.

Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principals office. I told him what happened, and he laughed too. Then he told me not to do it again.

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principals office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again.

I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most.

I told her, "Colonel Sanders".

Guess where I am now.

A Very SERIOUS WARNING!!!

While you were watching the oil spill, the New York failed terrorist bombing and other critical crises, Hillary Clinton signed the small arms treaty with the UN.

OBAMA FINDS LEGAL WAY AROUND THE 2ND AMENDMENT AND USES IT.

IF THIS PASSES...... ??????
On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States

On Wednesday the Obama administration took its first major step in a plan to ban all firearms in the United States. The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass
the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created
by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of all firearms. The Obama administration is attempting to use
tactics and methods of gun control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US citizens even understand what has happened.

Obama can appear before the public and tell us that he does not intend to pursue any
legislation (in the United States) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to international treaties and foreign gun control laws. Does that mean Obama is telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits firearm and ammunition manufacturers from selling to the public. We will wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection and destruction center or face imprisonment. This has happened in other countries, past
and present! THIS IS NOT A JOKE OR A FALSE WARNING.

As sure as government health care will be forced on us by the Obama administration through whatever means necessary, so will gun control. Read the Article U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United
States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance
critics said gave every nation a veto. The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State Department, overturns the position of former President
George W. Bush's administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national controls were better.

June 7th - 1pm Special Budget Meeting and Work Session;
Be there!

Government Office Bldg., Room 303 Salisbury, MD 21803

We had reported to you that this special work session was at 4pm on 6/7, which is incorrect. The probblem is there was conflicting information out there and no agenda published because this is a special meeting. However, we have confirmed from the Wicomico county council that this meeting will be held on 1pm on Monday 6/7 and is the last budget meeting before the council before their required vote on June 15th. Please come out and join us!

Wicomico County Council: Night Meetings
So many of us have been asking the county council to give the working public access to our local government by holding evening council meetings. The subject came to a vote last month and was once again voted down. John Cannon, who said he would support night meetings at a recent AFP meeting was unable to vote, due to the death of his father. Last Tuesday, Cannon brought the subject up again asking the full council vote on the issue. Please contact each of the council members now and urge them to compromise with the public for one night meeting and one day meeting per month. Or just email them here. Thank John, Joe, Sheree and Gail while you're at it!

JUNE MEETING: June 23rd at 7pm Brew River, Salisbury
Speaking at our next meeting, JUNE 23rd at 7pm will be Bill Satterfield, Executive Director of the Delmarva Poultry Industry, DPI. Please attend and learn about President's Obama's Chesapeake BayExecutive Order or our own Senator Cardin's Chesapeake Bay Legislation, S. 1816. Learn more about the billion dollars of supplies that the poultry buys from the local economy or the 14,700 Poultry company jobs on Delmarva. Reflect for a moment on your own economic situation should some unnamed EPA bureaucrat drive that final nail in the future of the poultry industry. Ask Mr. Satterfield if our elected officials should tell the EPA to put our Poultry industry on their highly heralded endangered species list.

Joe Ollinger - Job Interview
After Mr. Satterfield speaks, we have asked Joe Ollinger to interview for the job of Wicomico County Executive. The leadership of your AFP leadership team was greatly offended when the current Wicomico County Executive did not even appear at the public hearing held to review his final county budget. Joe Ollinger's promise appears to be one of efficiency, effectiveness, and performance and please join us to ask your own questions.

THE BUS FOR THE GLENN BECK TRIP IN AUGUST 28th IS FILLING UP FAST and will be a sellout. Please contact Brian Nygaard for ticket information.

No Ships To Gaza, Netanyahu Tells Top Ministers

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told the 'Septet' of leading ministers Thursday evening that the Gaza-bound Irish ship "Rachel Corrie," and all other vessels, will not break Israel's blockade of Gaza, "not now and not in the future."

He said that the Rachel Corrie boat, now in Libyan waters about 400 miles from Israel and headed for Gaza, will be re-directed to the Ashdod port, where any humanitarian aid on board will be transferred overland to Gaza.

Several news outlets said that Netanyahu would suggest “creative ideas” for inspecting ships claiming to carry aid for Gaza. These ideas would reportedly involve the participation of United Nations crews in the inspection process. Inspections would take place in Ashdod harbor.

IDF sources said the ships in the convoy intercepted Monday were carrying spotted camouflage material, of the kind used to make military uniforms and to mask military positions.
